What is Mission Shaped Ministry
The vision of the strategy ‘Regenerating the Church’, is of a Presbytery culture that embraces and nurtures new models (or fresh expressions) of Chuch. The Presbytery recognizes that people will need training in the understanding of new models of Church, and how they may be developed. A learning journey Mission Shaped Ministry (MSM) course that has been experienced in many other places and is now presented by the Port Phillip West Presbytery. It is a year of learning, talking and praying about developing and sustaining ‘fresh expressions’ of Church.
Who does MSM?
Those who come on the MSM journey tend to do so as individuals or teams, leaders and members, ordained or lay people, as they prepare to start fresh expression of church, or after it has begun, or because they want their existing church to be more mission-shaped.
There is a range of modules – Active discernment/Mission context and the mission of God/What is Church? /Gospel and culture/ Equipping and getting started/ Values, vision and call/ Starting something new/ Development of initiatives/ Discipleship and evangelism strategies/ Missional communities and leadership/ Ongoing development, and sustaining initiatives/ Handling setbacks/ Spirituality for mission/ Growing a fresh expression of Church to maturity.
